If you're a music-hungry apartment-ite with a thirst (sorry) for discovering new music, one of the better places to get your fix is at Flaherty's Thirsty Ear Tavern. It has a reputation for hosting the majority of the city's shows from local bands, and every night around 9pm there's a show. The music here varies but is usually blues, jazz, funk or R'n'B, as Columbus is the home of the

Blues. If you're not feeling too adventurous, though, it might be worth noting that there's always a cover charge, which varies from $5-$20, but drinks are cheaper, usually in the $3-$5 range.

The places serves some decent grub, with a range of menu items from fried pickles to burgers to alfredo pizza, which will satisfy both omni and veggie apartment-ites. Most of the beers they have are on tap, and so vary by the season. The interior looks a little dingy, but don't let that put you off - this is one of the better places to get a taste of Columbus' musical culture. This isn't really a bar to have deep conversations in, though - this place really is usually packed, and is all about the music, which can be pretty loud.
